Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily H member 1 (OR5H1) is a human protein encoded by the OR5H1 gene. It is a member of the large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) found in the nasal epithelium and is responsible for the detection and signal transduction of odorant molecules. Like all olfactory receptors, OR5H1 has seven transmembrane domains and initiates a G protein-mediated signaling pathway upon odorant binding, resulting in neuronal activation and the perception of smell. OR5H1 is not associated with any disease or therapeutic interventions and is not a target for clinical drugs[4][6][8][9].
Not applicable for pharmacological agents, but physiologically: recognizes odorant (volatile) molecules, activates G protein-coupled cascade, leads to neuronal response signaling smell perception[6][8][9].
