Overview

Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily H member 6 (OR5H6) is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, specifically classified as an odorant receptor within the olfactory system[2][3][7]. Like all olfactory receptors, it possesses a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure and is encoded by a single-exon gene[2][7]. OR5H6 interacts with odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium to initiate neuronal signals that underlie the sense of smell[2][3]. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. OR5H6 is a segregating pseudogene in humans: in some individuals, the gene encodes a functional receptor protein, while in others, mutations lead to a nonfunctional product[3]. There is currently no evidence to suggest that OR5H6 is considered a druggable or therapeutic target, nor are there documented drugs or approved medical interventions directed at this receptor.
