Overview

Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily H member 7 pseudogene (OR5H7P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene belonging to the olfactory receptor gene family[1][2][7][8]. Olfactory receptors usually interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response, enabling the perception of smell. Most olfactory receptors are G protein-coupled receptors characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain and are the largest gene family in the human genome[1][5][8]. However, OR5H7P is designated a pseudogene, meaning that it contains sequence alterations precluding production of a functional protein[1][8]. Pseudogenes such as OR5H7P do not encode active receptors and lack known physiological or pathological functions[1][8][3]. No drugs, disease associations, or recognized mechanistic or biomarker roles are listed for OR5H7P.
