Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily J member 7 pseudogene (OR5J7P)

OR5J7P (Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily J member 7 pseudogene) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene, derived from the olfactory receptor gene family. The olfactory receptor family constitutes the largest group of G protein-coupled receptors and plays a key role in the sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules and initiating neuronal responses. However, OR5J7P does not code for a functional receptor protein and is considered a non-functional genetic element resulting from evolutionary processes that disrupt its coding potential, such as nonsense or frameshift mutations.
