Overview

Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily L member 2 (OR5L2) is a human G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) expressed primarily in the olfactory epithelium, where it functions in detecting and discriminating volatile chemical odorants as part of the sense of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR5L2 possesses the characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure and transduces external chemical signals through G protein-mediated pathways, ultimately leading to neuronal activation and perception of specific smells. The gene encoding OR5L2 is part of the largest gene family in the human genome, with each receptor typically responding to a set of structurally related odorant molecules[4][7]. While olfactory receptors are critical for sensory perception, there is currently no evidence implicating OR5L2 in disease mechanisms, nor is it a known pharmacological target for therapeutic agents. Its relevance is mainly in the context of olfactory function and molecular mechanisms underlying odor detection.
