Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily M member 3 (OR5M3) is a human protein encoded by the OR5M3 gene. It is a member of the olfactory receptor family of class A G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure. OR5M3 is expressed in the nasal olfactory epithelium, where it binds odorant molecules and initiates G protein-mediated signal transduction, leading to neuronal responses that enable the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors, including OR5M3, originate from single coding-exon genes, and the family is the largest in the human genome. Like other olfactory receptors, OR5M3 does not have established roles in nonolfactory diseases or as a drug target, though the broader olfactory receptor family has emerging relevance in extranasal tissues.
