Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily M member 7 pseudogene (OR5M7P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a DNA sequence similar to a functional gene but lacks the ability to encode an active protein[3]. It is part of the large olfactory receptor gene family, which normally encodes G protein-coupled receptors responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses involved in smell perception[3]. OR5M7P, however, contains disabling mutations and does not produce a functional receptor. As a pseudogene, it does not serve as a therapeutic target and has no known biological function, disease association, or drug interactions[3][1]. OR5M7P is a non-coding pseudogene derived from the olfactory receptor gene family, ancestral members of which are 7-transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptors. There is no evidence for functional, therapeutic, or biomarker relevance for OR5M7P in disease or clinical settings. The designation as a pseudogene means it should not be considered a molecular target or a functional receptor[3][1].
