Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily P member 3 (OR5P3) is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed in the olfactory epithelium, where it initiates the neuronal response upon binding to odorant molecules, triggering the perception of smell. Like all olfactory receptors, it possesses a 7-transmembrane domain structure and is part of the largest gene family in the human genome. OR5P3, along with other olfactory receptors, mediates signal transduction via G protein activation, converting extracellular odorant detection into intracellular signaling (primarily via cAMP pathway). There is limited evidence for a disease association or druggability, and no known marketed drugs target this receptor directly.
