Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily T member 2 (OR5T2) is a human protein encoded by the OR5T2 gene. It belongs to the large family of olfactory receptors, which are a subset of class A G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure[3][6]. These receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose and initiate neuronal signals that lead to the perception of smell. Members of the olfactory receptor family share structural similarities with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are primarily responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. While the gene family is the largest in the human genome, most olfactory receptors (including OR5T2) are not considered drug targets, and their roles outside chemosensation remain a topic of ongoing research[3][6][7]. OR5T2 may also be expressed at low levels in non-olfactory tissues, but no confirmed disease roles or drug interactions are established.
