Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily V member 1 (OR5V1) is a G protein-coupled receptor in the human olfactory epithelium that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a signal transduction cascade via G proteins to trigger the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR5V1 contains a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure found in neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and is encoded by a single coding-exon gene. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. There are no established drugs, biomarkers, or safety issues associated with this receptor, and its biological role is confined to odorant detection, with broader physiological or pathological roles not specifically characterized for OR5V1[5][2][6][3][4][7][8][9]
