Olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily A member 5 pseudogene (OR51A5P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene within the olfactory receptor gene family[2][3][5]. Olfactory receptors in general are responsible for odorant detection in the nose, initiating neuronal responses for the sense of smell[4][5][6]. However, OR51A5P is annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it harbors sequence similarity to functional olfactory receptor genes but is presumed non-functional due to mutations that prevent normal protein expression or function[2][3]. As such, it is not considered a therapeutic target, does not produce a functional olfactory receptor protein, and currently has no known role in disease, biomarker use, or pharmacological targeting[2][3][5].
