Olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily G member 2 (OR51G2) is a member of the olfactory receptor family and encodes a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) expressed primarily in the sensory neurons of the nasal olfactory epithelium[4]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR51G2 has a seven-transmembrane domain architecture and is responsible for recognizing specific odorant molecules (typically volatile compounds) and initiating the signal transduction cascade that results in the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors such as OR51G2 function via G protein-mediated pathways, transmitting chemical signals from odorants to the brain through neuronal activation. OR51G2 is one of approximately 400 functional human olfactory receptor genes, constituting the largest protein family in the genome[4]. Summary of limitations: There is no evidence that OR51G2 is directly targeted by approved drugs, nor is it a known drug target or biomarker in clinical use as of this writing.
