Olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily M member 1 (OR51M1) is a human protein-coding gene expressed predominantly in the olfactory epithelium[1][3][4]. It belongs to the largest family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in the human genome and features a canonical seven-transmembrane domain structure common to neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[1][2][3][4]. OR51M1 binds odorant molecules in the nasal cavity, initiating a G protein-mediated signaling cascade that leads to neuronal activation and perception of smell[1][3][4]. The OR51M1 gene is part of a multi-gene family with evolutionary diversity, and its nomenclature is organism-specific[1][3][4]. There are no drugs or therapies currently directed against OR51M1, and it is not recognized as a biomarker or a therapeutic target outside its role in olfactory signaling. While olfactory receptors such as OR51M1 have theoretical relevance to sensory and possibly non-sensory biology, disease associations are rare, and functional roles outside olfaction have not been described for this specific receptor[1][2][3][4].
