Olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily P member 1 pseudogene (OR51P1P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene, meaning it resembles functional olfactory receptor genes but does not encode a protein product or mediate receptor activity. Olfactory receptor genes typically encode G protein-coupled receptors involved in the detection of odorant molecules, but OR51P1P carries disabling mutations or structural interruptions that prevent the formation of a functional receptor protein. It is not considered a drug target, is not involved in signaling, and has no known physiological or pathological roles. Like many pseudogenes, it may reflect historic duplication and loss events within the large olfactory receptor gene family. There is no evidence that OR51P1P acts as a regulatory RNA or microRNA decoy.
