Overview

Olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily V member 1 (OR51V1) is a member of the olfactory receptor proteins, which are part of the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in the human genome. OR51V1 interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating neuronal responses that result in the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, it has a 7-transmembrane domain structure and mediates odorant signal transduction via G proteins. Although its primary role is in olfaction, there is no current evidence supporting its direct utility as a pharmacological target for drug therapy or disease modulation.
