Olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily B member 2 (OR52B2) is an odorant receptor encoded by the OR52B2 gene in humans. It is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, specifically within the rhodopsin-like class A GPCRs. OR52B2 is a single-exon gene and, like other olfactory receptors, features a seven-transmembrane domain structure. This receptor is responsible for recognizing specific odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, leading to G protein-mediated signal transduction that initiates the perception of smell. OR52B2 is one of the large repertoire of olfactory receptors in the human genome, which collectively enable the detection and discrimination of a vast number of odorant molecules. No known direct roles for OR52B2 have been established in specific diseases or as a drug target, and there are currently no drugs or clinical biomarkers involving this receptor.
