Olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily D member 1 (OR52D1) is a member of the olfactory receptor gene family that encodes G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) featuring a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure[1][2][5][6][8]. These proteins are expressed primarily in the nasal epithelium and are responsible for recognizing odorant molecules, thereby initiating neuronal responses that ultimately enable the perception of smells[1][4][8]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR52D1 transduces extracellular chemical signals via G protein activation, leading to changes in second messengers (such as cAMP), and is part of the largest gene family in the human genome[1][6][8][9]. OR52D1 is not known to have roles in disease or as a therapeutic target. It is primarily relevant for its specialized function in odor detection, rather than in clinical diagnostics or drug targeting[1][3][9].
