Olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily E member 2 (OR52E2) is a member of the olfactory receptor subfamily within the large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), sharing the characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure with other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[4][5]. OR52E2 is primarily responsible for the recognition and binding of specific odorant molecules, particularly carboxylic acids with long hydrocarbon tails[1]. Upon binding, OR52E2 activates G-protein-mediated signal transduction pathways. While its primary biological function is in odorant discrimination in the olfactory epithelium, some olfactory receptors have been found in other tissues, suggesting possible broader physiological roles[5]. No approved drugs or antagonists are known to specifically target OR52E2, and it is not currently used as a biomarker or drug target in clinical therapy[5].
