Olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily E member 4 (OR52E4) is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily characterized by seven transmembrane domains. It is specifically involved in the initial detection of odorant molecules in the human olfactory epithelium. The binding of odorants to OR52E4 induces a conformational change that activates a G protein-dependent signaling cascade, ultimately resulting in the neuronal perception of smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and OR52E4 is classified within the class A (rhodopsin-like) GPCRs. No specific disease associations, drugs, or biomarkers have been currently identified for OR52E4, and its primary role is in sensory signal transduction.
