Olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily I member 1 (OR52I1) is a human G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) involved in the detection of odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a signaling cascade that leads to the perception of smell[7][9]. Like other olfactory receptors, it is characterized by a single coding-exon gene structure and a 7-transmembrane domain, which it shares with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[7][9]. OR52I1 belongs to one of the largest gene families in the human genome, with its primary function being the recognition of specific odorant ligands and transduction of those signals via G proteins[7][9][5]. While olfactory receptors are best known for their role in smell, recent findings suggest they may be expressed in non-olfactory tissues, but functional and disease associations for OR52I1 outside of olfaction remain unclear or are not well established[5].
