Overview

Olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily J member 1 pseudogene (OR52J1P) is a nonfunctional pseudogene in humans that is related by sequence to the family of olfactory receptor genes, which normally code for G protein-coupled receptors involved in odorant detection in the nose[2]. As a pseudogene, OR52J1P does not produce a functional protein product and therefore lacks known biological activity, therapeutic relevance, or disease association. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes like OR52J1P are common in the genome due to low selective pressure to maintain olfactory receptors whose functions are redundant or no longer required[3].
