Olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily L member 1 (OR52L1) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) expressed in the sensory epithelium of the nasal cavity[2][4]. These proteins have a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure and are responsible for binding odorant molecules, leading to activation of intracellular G-proteins and the initiation of neuronal signaling pathways that trigger the perception of smell[2][4][7]. OR52L1, like other OR52 subfamily members, is most likely involved in recognizing specific odorant molecules, particularly carboxylic acid odorants[1]. The OR gene family is the largest in the human genome, and while most olfactory receptors are not conventional therapeutic targets, their function is vital for sensory perception and could have broader implications as potential biomarkers or non-traditional targets in disease contexts[4][6]. Currently, OR52L1 is not associated with any established disease or targeted by any drugs.
