Olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily P member 1 (OR52P1) encodes a protein that is part of the GPCR superfamily, recognized by its seven-transmembrane domain structure. These receptors are localized in the olfactory epithelium and interact with odorant molecules to initiate neuronal responses that trigger the perception of smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and each receptor typically responds to specific odorant ligands. OR52P1’s primary biological role is in sensory transduction, detecting and discriminating odorous compounds via G protein-mediated signal transduction. There are no well-established therapeutic drugs or disease associations for this specific receptor, and it is sometimes referenced as a pseudogene, so functional expression in humans may be limited or absent
