Olfactory receptor family 56 subfamily A member 7 pseudogene (OR56A7P) is a human pseudogene related to the olfactory receptor gene family. Olfactory receptors typically detect odorants via G protein-coupled mechanisms and initiate neuronal responses involved in the sense of smell. However, as a pseudogene, OR56A7P does not encode a functional protein and is considered non-functional. No biological activity, disease connections, drug interactions, or clinical relevance are currently documented for OR56A7P. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest gene family in the human genome, but a substantial fraction—including OR56A7P—are classified as pseudogenes due to disabling mutations that prevent functional protein expression.
