Olfactory receptor family 56 subfamily B member 2 (OR56B2) is encoded by the OR56B2 gene, which is annotated as a pseudogene in humans[5]. Members of the olfactory receptor family typically function as G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) located on the cell surface of olfactory sensory neurons, responsible for detecting diverse odorants and initiating neural signaling that leads to smell perception[3][5]. However, OR56B2 lacks evidence of functional expression and is predicted to be non-functional (“putative” or “pseudogene”), meaning it does not contribute to olfactory signaling in humans.
