Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily B member 2 (OR6B2) is a member of the large family of human olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) characterized by a seven-transmembrane (7TM) domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[2][3][4]. OR6B2 is encoded by a single-exon gene and is responsible for mediating the initial molecular recognition of odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, triggering G protein-mediated signal transduction and ultimately contributing to the perception of smell[2][3][4]. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. Unlike other receptor classes, olfactory receptors (including OR6B2) are not currently therapeutic drug targets, as they function mainly in sensory transduction and have limited (if any) known pharmacological modulation or disease relevance[3][4][1]. Some sources annotate OR6B2 as a "pseudogene" (OR6B2P), suggesting it may be non-functional in humans or only expressed at very low levels, which is common for some olfactory receptor genes[3]. There is no established set of drugs, biomarker use, or safety concerns tied to this specific receptor.
