Overview

Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 4 (OR6C4) is a human protein belonging to the large family of olfactory receptors, which mediate detection of odorant molecules in the nose and trigger neuronal responses involved in smell perception[2][6]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR6C4 is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure, encoded by a single exon gene[2][6]. These receptors are part of the largest gene family in the human genome and are specifically tasked with the G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals[2][6]. OR6C4 is not a well-established therapeutic target, has no known drug interactions, and is primarily studied in the context of sensory biology. Although some associations with rare genetic diseases have been noted, there are no validated disease mechanisms or clinical biomarker utilities directly tied to this receptor[2][6].
