Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 5 pseudogene (OR6C5P) is a human genomic pseudogene that is a nonfunctional member of the olfactory receptor gene superfamily[3][4]. Olfactory receptor genes encode G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are responsible for the detection of odorants; however, over half of the human olfactory receptor genes, including OR6C5P, have lost function through evolution and are present as pseudogenes with disruptions such as frame-shift or nonsense mutations[4]. Pseudogenization of olfactory receptors is a major reason for the diminished olfactory capability in humans compared to many other mammals. There are no established biological functions, disease associations, or pharmacological activities attributed to this gene[4][3]. No literature suggests that OR6C5P encodes a functional receptor, is involved in human disease, or is relevant for biomarker or drug targeting purposes[3][4].
