Overview

Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 74 (OR6C74) is a human protein-coding gene belonging to the large family of olfactory receptors, which are part of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. OR6C74 is expressed primarily in olfactory epithelium and plays a pivotal role in the detection of odorant molecules in the nasal cavity. Upon binding an odorant, OR6C74 initiates a G protein-mediated transduction cascade leading to neuronal activation and ultimately the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors are characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure typical of GPCRs, and their gene family is the largest in the human genome. OR6C74 is not known to be directly involved in disease, nor targeted by any clinical or approved drugs. It is not currently used as a biomarker and presents no established safety concerns in therapeutic contexts.
