Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 76 (OR6C76) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with seven transmembrane domains. These receptors are responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses that result in the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors arise from single coding-exon genes and mediate G protein-dependent transduction of olfactory signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. OR6C76 is primarily involved in the detection of chemical stimuli associated with smell[2][3][5]. While classified as a G protein-coupled receptor, and thus generally considered a therapeutic target class, OR6C76 is not currently a drug target and has no established drugs, biomarkers, or safety liabilities associated with it. Olfactory receptors are seldom drug targets outside niche research/industrial uses. There is no established major disease association, but an association with Three M Syndrome 1 has been listed[5].
