OR6F1
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Receptor, Olfactory receptor

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily F member 1 (OR6F1) is a member of the largest gene family in the human genome—the olfactory receptor family. OR6F1 encodes a protein that resides in the olfactory epithelium of the nose where it binds and is activated by specific odorant molecules, leading to the initiation of a G protein-mediated cascade ultimately resulting in neuronal signaling and perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR6F1 is a single-exon, seven-transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptor. There are no known drugs, diagnostic applications, or disease associations beyond its role in olfactory signal transduction[1][2][5][7].

Mechanism of action

No drugs known; mechanism of action would be via G protein signaling if specifically targeted

03

Biological functions

Signal transduction (odorant signal transduction)Recognition of odorant moleculesInitiation of neuronal response for smell perception
04

Disease associations

Other (not directly associated with major human diseases based on current literature; olfactory receptor gene family changes can be linked indirectly to smell disorders, but no clear disease role for OR6F1 itself)
