Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily N member 2 (OR6N2) is a member of the olfactory receptor family that functions as a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)[3][4][7]. It features a 7-transmembrane domain structure, which is characteristic of GPCRs and is responsible for recognizing and binding odorant molecules in the nose, thereby initiating the neuronal signaling that leads to the perception of smell[3][7]. The olfactory receptor gene family, which includes OR6N2, is the largest in the human genome[3][7]. Olfactory receptors are primarily expressed in the olfactory epithelium, where they play key roles in smell detection, although some ectopic (non-olfactory) expression has been reported for other olfactory receptors[2][4]. OR6N2’s molecular mechanism follows the classical GPCR pathway, involving G protein activation and subsequent intracellular cascades that ultimately lead to neuronal membrane depolarization and olfactory signal transduction[2][7]. There is no documented role for OR6N2 in common human diseases, nor are there known drugs that directly interact with it.
