Overview

Olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily S member 1 (OR6S1) is a protein in humans encoded by the OR6S1 gene. OR6S1 is a member of the olfactory receptor (OR) superfamily, which comprises the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in the human genome. These receptors are primarily responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. OR6S1, like other olfactory receptors, possesses a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure, similar to that found in many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. Olfactory receptors, including OR6S1, mediate G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. Their primary function is signal transduction related to olfactory processes, and they are not currently recognized as therapeutic targets. OR6S1's involvement in disease or drug interaction is not documented as of current knowledge[4][5][7][8].
