Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily A member 11 pseudogene (OR7A11P) is a member of the olfactory receptor gene superfamily, which encodes proteins involved in the detection of odorants for the sense of smell. Unlike functional olfactory receptor genes, OR7A11P is classified as a pseudogene and does not encode a functional receptor protein. Olfactory receptor genes in general are part of the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure; however, pseudogenes like OR7A11P are typically the result of evolutionary gene loss and accumulation of mutations and do not contribute to olfactory function. No therapeutic or diagnostic relevance is described for OR7A11P, as it does not produce an active molecule.
