Target intelligence / Profile preview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 12 pseudogene (OR7E12P)

Target
OR7E12P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, G protein-coupled receptor family (GPCR), Olfactory receptor
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 12 pseudogene (OR7E12P) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome. Although related olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose and are members of the large G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, OR7E12P has lost its protein-coding potential and is not believed to produce a functional receptor. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes such as OR7E12P are remnants of genes that once played a role in smell perception but have since accumulated mutations rendering them inactive.
