OR7E122P (Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 122 pseudogene) is a human pseudogene belonging to the olfactory receptor gene superfamily[2][3][5]. Olfactory receptors are involved in odorant recognition and G protein–mediated transduction of olfactory signals, but pseudogenes such as OR7E122P lack the ability to code for a functional protein and thus do not participate in olfaction or serve as therapeutic targets[3][4][5]. This gene may represent an evolutionary transition between functional and non-functional olfactory receptors, but no biological function or disease role has been demonstrated in humans[3].
