Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 148 pseudogene (OR7E148P) is classified as a human pseudogene, indicating it is a nonfunctional genomic DNA segment derived from an ancestral olfactory receptor gene. While functional olfactory receptor genes encode G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for odorant detection in the nose, pseudogenes like OR7E148P are unable to produce functional proteins due to accumulated disabling mutations, such as premature stop codons or frameshift mutations[5][6]. OR7E148P thus does not participate in normal receptor-mediated neuronal signaling or odorant recognition. There is currently no evidence that this pseudogene is involved in any therapeutic, signaling, or disease process, nor does it serve as a drug target or biomarker[5][6][9].
