Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 162 pseudogene (OR7E162P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene in the olfactory receptor gene family. Olfactory receptors are normally G protein-coupled receptors responsible for odorant detection, but pseudogenes arise from disruptive mutations such as frameshifts or nonsense mutations and are typically not translated into functional proteins. OR7E162P has multiple alternative names, including OR7E77, OR7E77P, and OST060. There is no evidence that OR7E162P encodes a functional receptor or is involved in any known biological function or disease process. Like most pseudogenes within the olfactory receptor family, it is thought to be an evolutionary remnant with no therapeutic relevance. Some pseudogenes from other gene families can play regulatory roles at the RNA level, but there is no reported function for OR7E162P.
