Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 22 pseudogene (OR7E22P)

Target
OR7E22P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Olfactory receptor family (pseudogene form), G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, but non-functional in this instance

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 22 pseudogene (OR7E22P) is a human pseudogene that belongs to the large olfactory receptor (OR) gene family. Olfactory receptors are typically responsible for the detection of odorant molecules and are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure. However, as a pseudogene, OR7E22P no longer encodes a functional protein and does not participate in odor detection or signal transduction. The gene has accumulated mutations that prevent it from producing an active receptor protein. OR7E22P is not known to be involved in any biological processes, disease mechanisms, or drug interactions. It is most relevant for genetic and comparative genomics studies of the olfactory receptor family in humans.
