Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 8 pseudogene (OR7E8P), also referred to as OR11-11a or seven transmembrane helix receptor, is classified as a pseudogene rather than a functional protein-coding gene. Olfactory receptors, in general, are part of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, sharing a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure, and are involved in the detection of odorant molecules, initiating neuronal responses for the sense of smell[3][1][5]. However, as a pseudogene, OR7E8P does not produce a functional receptor protein and therefore does not have established biological functions, associated disease roles, or known drug interactions. Pseudogenes like OR7E8P are typically considered genomically inactive remnants of formerly functional genes and are not regarded as therapeutic targets[3].
