Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 85 pseudogene (OR7E85P) is a defunct genomic locus derived from the olfactory receptor gene family, the largest group of G protein-coupled receptors in the human genome[2]. Olfactory receptors, when functional, interact with odorants to trigger neuronal signaling and olfactory perception. Pseudogenes like OR7E85P, due to mutations or coding disruptions, do not encode active receptor proteins and lack known biological or therapeutic functions[5][7]. They are generally considered non-functional relics of gene evolution, although rare exceptions of pseudogene function have been described in other species, not this locus[5][7]. OR7E85P is annotated in multiple sources, but it does not represent a valid drug target nor does it serve as a marker for disease.
