Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 86 pseudogene (OR7E86P) is a human pseudogene classified within the olfactory receptor gene superfamily. While functional olfactory receptors are seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptors that detect odorants and initiate neuronal signaling for smell perception, OR7E86P is not believed to encode a functional protein. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, but many family members are pseudogenes in humans[1][9]. OR7E86P does not encode a functional olfactory receptor or other active protein product. While it is homologous to GPCRs and retains typical nomenclature and structural annotation, it is not a therapeutic nor diagnostic target, nor is it a receptor for any known drug or ligand in humans[1][9].
