Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 90 pseudogene (OR7E90P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene. While olfactory receptors in general are G protein-coupled receptors responsible for odorant detection and signal transduction, the OR7E90P locus does not encode a functional receptor protein in humans due to disabling mutations or gene truncations. Pseudogenes arise from formerly functional genes through genetic changes such as nonsense or frame-shift mutations; thus, OR7E90P does not participate in physiological odor recognition and is biologically inactive. It has no recognized therapeutic, diagnostic, or biomarker utility, and is not a direct target for drugs. Occasionally, pseudogene-derived RNA may play regulatory roles, but no such functions have been documented for OR7E90P. Common aliases include OR7E123P and OST705.
