Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 94 pseudogene (OR7E94P)

Target
OR7E94P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, G protein-coupled receptor (pseudogene of olfactory receptor)
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 94 pseudogene (OR7E94P) is a member of the olfactory receptor gene family but is classified as a pseudogene in humans, meaning it does not produce a functional protein product[2][5][7]. While typical olfactory receptors are G protein-coupled receptors responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses that result in the perception of smell[8], a pseudogene such as OR7E94P has accumulated mutations that prevent it from producing an active receptor. There is no evidence to suggest that OR7E94P has biological functions, plays roles in disease, or serves as a target for therapeutic drugs[2][5][7][8].
