Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 97 pseudogene (OR7E97P) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome and is related to the family of olfactory receptors, which, when functional, belong to the large family of G protein–coupled receptors mediating odorant signal transduction. As a pseudogene, OR7E97P is considered nonfunctional, meaning it does not code for an active olfactory receptor protein due to accumulated mutations that disrupt its coding potential. There is no current evidence for protein expression, biological function, or disease association with OR7E97P. Similar olfactory receptor pseudogenes are common in the human genome due to relaxed evolutionary pressure on olfactory gene function in primates[2][4][6].
