Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily E member 99 pseudogene (OR7E99P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene. It is named and annotated as part of the olfactory receptor (OR) superfamily, specifically within family 7, subfamily E. Although typical olfactory receptors are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in odorant recognition and signal transduction, the OR7E99P locus contains mutations or sequence interruptions that render it non-protein-coding and non-functional as a receptor in humans. As such, it does not produce an active receptor protein and has no established biological function, associated disease roles, or relevance as a therapeutic target. OR7E99P is included among many olfactory receptor pseudogenes that represent evolutionary remnants with little selective pressure to maintain function in humans[1][2][3][7].
