Overview

Olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily M member 1 pseudogene (OR7M1P) represents a non-functional genomic sequence derived from the olfactory receptor gene family. Olfactory receptors are a large class of G protein-coupled receptors responsible for detecting odorant molecules and initiating neuronal signals for smell perception. However, pseudogenes such as OR7M1P arise via mutations (such as premature stop codons or frameshifts) that disrupt their coding potential, rendering them noncoding and generally nonfunctional[1][2][3][4].
