The olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily A member 1 (OR8A1) is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed in the olfactory epithelium, responsible for recognizing odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses that lead to smell perception. It possesses a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, although there is no current evidence linking OR8A1 to human disease or therapeutic response.
