Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily B member 3 (OR8B3) is a protein-coding gene that encodes an olfactory receptor—one of a large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium[3][5]. OR8B3 contains a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure, allowing it to interact with a broad range of airborne molecular ligands and initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell[3][5]. Like other olfactory receptors, its gene family is the largest in the human genome, and OR8B3 is thought to function by binding odorants and transducing signals via G proteins, activating downstream signaling cascades that culminate in neuronal activation and olfactory perception[3][4][5].
