Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily B member 5 pseudogene (OR8B5P) is a human pseudogene classified within the olfactory receptor gene family, which comprises G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) genes primarily responsible for odorant detection and signal transduction in the olfactory system. This locus is annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it does not produce a functional protein due to disabling mutations such as frame-shifts or premature stop codons. While most olfactory receptor pseudogenes are presumed non-functional and have no known biological or therapeutic significance, rare reports in the literature suggest some "pseudo-pseudogenes" in olfactory families may retain regulatory or minimal coding capacity, but there is no evidence for such a role for OR8B5P in humans. It is neither considered a therapeutic or diagnostic target, nor is it involved in disease biology.
